Single socket or switch replacement: £60-90 including like-for-like part. Outdoor light re-fix: £120-180 including fitting at mid-range cost. Multiple items in one visit priced at half-day (£180) or full-day (£320) rate rather than each.

What is notifiable (and where it goes)

Under Part P of the Building Regulations, the following require notification via a Part P registered electrician (or via Dover DC building control):

• New circuits
• Consumer unit replacement
• Any work in a bathroom or shower room (Zone 0-3)
• Any work supplying an outdoor circuit (garden lights, outbuildings, EV chargers)

I flag any of these at quote stage and refer to a local Part P registered electrician. Not sneaking it under the wire - the sign-off is your protection on house sale and on insurance.

Wingham-specific notes

Old cottage wiring. If a socket swap reveals rubber-sheathed cable, fabric insulation, or a fused-spur where a CU circuit should be, that is a re-wire flag. I stop, quote a partial re-wire scope, and route to the Part P sparks.
